Good Foods Consumed by Heart Disease Patients

Jakarta: Heart disease is known to be very dangerous, it can even cause death. However, it does not mean that those who have a diagnosis with heart disease cannot have a long and healthy life.

With adequate exercise, proper diet, and regular medical care, patients can manage disease heart and potentially reduce the risk of incident health detrimental later.

Oatmeal

Oatmeal is often an easy choice when it comes to a healthy and filling breakfast. Amy Goodrich, MS, RD, owner of Leading Edge Nutrition, LLC, says that oats are a great choice for heart disease patients.

“Oats are whole wheat and a good source of fiber. Soluble fiber in wheat helps reduce the absorption of LDL or bad cholesterol in the bloodstream,” Goodrich said.

Nuts

Although nuts may be high in fat, experts say they are still safe to eat, even for those with heart disease. “Nuts are a great source of antioxidants, healthy fats and fiber.

Eating a few servings per week lowers cholesterol and reduces inflammation in the body,” says Tina Marinaccio, MS, RD, CPT, founder of Health Dynamics, LLC.

However, Marinaccio recommends not to overdo it. “Because of their fat content, nuts are high in calories, so be sure to measure your portions,” she explains.

Fatty fish

Goodrich says that incorporating fatty fish into your daily diet can be a great way to improve health cardiovascular.

“Fatty fish such as salmon and tuna are excellent sources of omega-3 fatty acids. Eating fish twice a week can help lower triglycerides, blood pressure and total cholesterol, all of which are markers of heart disease,” says Goodrich.

Desserts do not have to be omitted for heart disease patients, but they must be chosen wisely. That’s why Colleen Christensen, RD, founder of Colleen Christensen Nutrition, recommends adding berries to your daily diet.

“Berries are a great source of protective antioxidants and phytochemicals that are associated with heart health,” explains Christensen.

Whole soybeans

Laura Yautz, RDN, LDN, NBC-HWC, a dietitian says that adding some unprocessed soy products to a meal plan can be a great option for people with heart disease.

“Unprocessed soybeans are high in protein, fiber, healthy fats, and antioxidants that can help lower blood pressure, cholesterol, triglycerides, and inflammation,” explains Yautz.
