Good driving conditions home from the Easter holidays – is expected evenly on the roads – VG

HOLIDAY TRAFFIC: The danger of queues on the way home from Easter holidays is always present. A smooth road is expected on the 1st and 2nd of Easter.

Extreme weather at Easter means that many people postpone the journey home until Monday, according to Vegtrafikksentralen, which says the driving conditions are optimal.

This year’s Easter holiday is coming to an end, and many are heading home after spending the Easter days at the cabin or family visit.

Road traffic center south reports heavy traffic and in places slow-moving queues on the E16 between Hønefoss and Sandvika. There is also heavy traffic and in places small queues on national road 7 between Gol and Hønefoss.

– Traffic is increasing, reports Vegtrafikksentralen.

The well-known question of exactly when it is smartest to set out on the road, once again becomes a topic for many.

– There is no final decision here, but motorists should be prepared for traffic throughout the day today, says traffic operator Trude Lindstad at Veitrafikksentralen region east to NTB.

The Easter weekend has been characterized by great weather in southern Norway. Lindstad points out that the weather is still good both on Sunday the 1st of Easter and Monday the 2nd of Easter, something many people like to take advantage of.

– There are probably many who postpone the journey home until Monday afternoon. Others are probably afraid of being stuck in line tomorrow and therefore choose to go home today. We expect a smooth ride on the roads, she says.

Great driving conditions

Last year’s Easter weekend was marked by bad weather. Several mountain passes were closed, while others had column driving. The storm even led to motorists being asked to postpone the journey home from the Easter holidays.

That is not the case at all this year, says Lindstad.

– It is a very stable weather, with stable driving conditions and dry and nice on the roads. There are no problems at the mountain passes, so motorists will not face such challenges this weekend, she says.

SNOW: The Easter weather is at its peak in several places in the country, something many people choose to take advantage of by postponing the journey home from the Easter holidays to the very end.

It has been good and warm in southern Norway during the Easter holidays, while temperatures have been somewhat cooler in the north, where the danger of avalanches still threatens more places.

No matter where you are in the country, motorists are asked to drive sensibly, keep their distance in the queue and not stress on the way home from Easter holidays.

– Avoid senseless overtaking, it is one of the most dangerous we experience, Lindstad warns.

More crashes in the dope break than in the queue

On the 1st and 2nd day of Easter last year, 58 cars were damaged in a rear-end collision in the Easter queue, according to figures from the industry organization Finans Norge. In the same two days, 243 cars were damaged during parking and reversing.

People are at least as exposed at petrol stations, rest areas and parking spaces as in the Easter queue, emphasizes communications manager Sigmund Clementz in the insurance company If in a press release.

– I want to compare it a bit with the chaos days at the malls just before Christmas, says Clementz.

– When parking and driving in first gear, accidents also occur, he reminds.
