Mexico City. In 2024, “there will be a good budget closing,” and there will be “no problems; the economy is strong, finances are fine,” said President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, after the meeting she held yesterday with President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and authorities from the Ministry of Finance, at the National Palace.
He said that the international environment will not affect the projections. The Treasury has several scenarios, “with different values of the peso against the dollar, so public finances are protected, there is no problem.”
And he ruled out, once again, that the change in the Mexican currency against the dollar has anything to do with the reform of the Judicial Branch. “It could be a small percentage, (but) there are other international factors that are affecting not only the peso, but other currencies in the world.
“The data that was given at the time regarding employment in the United States, the increase in rates in Japan have to do with the movement of resources at an international level, of currencies,” he said.
So, he added, “there is no problem, the economy in Mexico is very strong, there is no doubt about that,” and investments “are totally firm.”
He stressed that yesterday, at the National Palace, he had the opportunity to be with the president and the team of the Ministry of Finance, “the SAT, the secretary and the undersecretaries, because we are working on the closing of 2024 and the 2025 budget.”
He added that it is up to the president to close the budget by September 30, and “it is up to us, from October 1 to December 31, and we have to present the laws that correspond to the new budget and the Income Law, no later than November.”
He mentioned that although both teams were already working, the president “wanted me to be present at these meetings that they have periodically, to see how they see the progress of the budget and how the end of 2024 looks.”
He mentioned that there are still “some small pending works, which will require a percentage of the budget in 2025. “There are not many, but he is interested in us knowing which ones they are.”
Sheinbaum said they will meet again in September.
