The corn harvest

According to the report prepared by the Bahía Blanca Cereals and Products Exchange, the corn harvest in the area showed very good results, with an estimated average yield of 6,200 kg/ha (+14% y-a-y).

In the northern zone, 90% of the area was harvested with variable yields (from 40 qq/ha to 110 qq/ha).

The work progressed despite the high humidity in the grain due to the flexibility in receipt. In the final phase of the crop, the incidence of leafhopper was reported in some areas such as the district of General Villegas.

In the central area, 75% of the surface area used for cultivation has been harvested. Yields are very heterogeneous depending on the area (between 50 qq/ha and 95 qq/ha), with the highest being in the southeast of Buenos Aires.

In the southern area, 70% of the surface area has been harvested. Yields range from 35 qq/ha (minimum of 8 qq/ha and maximum of 60 qq/ha).

Winter cereals are in good to average condition, with the most advanced ones going through tillering with good health.

Early crops were the most affected by low temperatures and lack of rain, while late crops showed a delay in their development.

In some areas, fertilization work was carried out and others are waiting for better water conditions to advance with the work.

The rainfall recorded by the Meteorological Station Network (REM) of the Bahía Blanca Cereal and Product Exchange until August 8 averaged 23 mm in the southwest of Buenos Aires. The rains of the last few days are very necessary for the correct implantation and development of winter crops, after several weeks without rain in the region.

Water reserves continue to decline, ranging from regular to scarce in much of the area of influence.
Rainfall of up to 30 mm is forecast for this weekend depending on the area. If this occurs, it will favour the development of sowing for the next harvest.
