The presidential candidate of the largest opposition coalition in Venezuela, Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutiaassured this Tuesday that at the end of the counting of the minutes of the presidential elections on Sunday, it will be shown that he won the elections with more than eight million votes, despite the fact that National Electoral Council (CNE) gave victory to the official Nicolas Maduro with -the entity assured- 5,150,092 votes.

“Remember this figure well: when the minutes are counted, this server will have more than eight million votes, and with that figure we will restart the reconstruction of Venezuela.”said the standard-bearer for the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD) during a demonstration in Caracassurrounded by thousands of supporters who greeted him with shouts of “president.”

The former ambassador insisted that the results of the vote are known because the opposition already has more than 80% of the minutes in its possession, which it has uploaded scanned to a website (www.ganovzla.com), where citizens, with their ID number, can check the one corresponding to their voting table.

CARACAS (VENEZUELA), 07/30/2024.- Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado (2-l) and Venezuelan presidential candidate Edmundo González Urrutia (r) participate in a support rally this Tuesday, in Caracas (Venezuela). Thousands of Venezuelans have gathered this Tuesday in Caracas, in an event called by the majority opposition, to reject for the second consecutive day what they consider to be fraud in the official results of the National Electoral Council (CNE), which the day before proclaimed Nicolás Maduro as re-elected president with 51.2% of the votes. González Urrutia, the standard-bearer of the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD), asked his supporters who were cheering him on during the event, not to worry, because the results are already known to the voters, as well as to the international community, and very soon there will be a decision.

He also addressed the electoral body: “Gentlemen of the CNE, do not worry about looking for the minutes. Here are the sealed minutes.”

Thousands of Venezuelans gathered at the event called by the PUD to reject for the second consecutive day the official results of the CNE, which the day before proclaimed Maduro as re-elected president with 51.2% of the votes.

This was the first large-scale organized activity after numerous protests were reported in various regions of the country on Monday in rejection of the election results announced by the CNE.

In protest against this result, thousands of citizens have taken to the streets since Monday to express their discontent in Caracas and much of the country, where multiple protests were reported, some of which were met with repression by the military and police forces.

According to four NGOs, at least 11 people died on Monday in the context of these protests, and the organization Foro Penal counts 177 arrests. EFE (I)
