The doctor of the Republican Dermatovenerological Dispensary Viktor Bas advises to abstain from sex with random people.

Many are sure that venereal diseases do not concern well-off people. Married, divorced or widowed aged 30-49 years and older often do not associate their sexual partners with people who pose a threat in terms of infection. And in vain. Sexually active residents of Karelia who do not use condoms face many dangers that you need to be aware of. Viktor Bas, Honored Doctor of the Republic of Karelia, dermatovenereologist at the Republican Dermatovenerological Dispensary, tells about one of the most common sexually transmitted infections, gonorrhea.

“Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted disease caused by infection with the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae, which affects the mucous membranes of the genital tract, including the cervix, uterus and fallopian tubes in women, and the urethra in women and men. This bacterium can also cause inflammation of the mucous membranes of the mouth, throat, eyes and rectum,” the doctor explained.

According to Victor Bas, anyone who is sexually active can contract gonorrhea.

“Condoms, when used consistently and correctly, can reduce the risk of transmission of gonorrhea. The surest way to avoid transmission of gonorrhea or other venous diseases is to abstain from vaginal, anal and oral sex with random people or to be in a long-term mutually monogamous relationship with a partner who has been tested and is known to be uninfected, ”said the dermatovenereologist.
