Julián Álvarez (22) rose to superstardom at the 2022 World Cup. The Manchester City attacker was one of the cornerstones in the Albiceleste’s journey to the title. West Ham United could have signed the attacker.

“A year ago our talent scout told me: ‘You should get Julián Álvarez from River Plate’,” said West Ham United team manager David Moyes. But he made the decision not to try for Alvarez. The reason: “We had Michail Antonio, who performed very well.”

Man City gave Alvarez a contract until 2027

The Hammers didn’t want Alvarez, but the South American made the move to the Premier League. Manchester City paid almost 21 million euros for the center forward to River Plate and gave him a long-term contract until June 30, 2027.

One of the Premier League’s rising stars

After a six-month loan to the traditional Argentine club, the Sky Blues brought the 22-year-old to the island. Alvarez is overshadowed by Erling Haaland (22), but scored nine goals and provided two assists in 24 games across all competitions. On average, he hits every 130 minutes.

West Ham United, however, could use the qualities of the world champions. The traditional club from London is in 15th place after 20 games. With just 17 goals scored, David Moyes’ side have one of the weakest attacking departments in the Premier League.
