Prince Michael of Greece died on the age of 85. He was a primary cousin of the late Queen Elizabeth II’s husband, Prince Philip.
Michael renounced his rights to the Greek throne so as to marry a lady of no aristocratic origin.
The royal was a well-known author and historian who wrote beneath the title Michel de Gres. Prince Michael was the final surviving grandson of George I of Greece and the final surviving great-grandson of Christian IX of Denmark.
The prince was born in Rome months earlier than the outbreak of World Struggle II in 1939. His dad and mom have been Prince Christopher of Greece and Denmark and his spouse Princess Françoise d’Orléans of France.
Michael’s father died when he was just one 12 months previous, and World Struggle II scattered the Greek royal household throughout Europe. The prince was raised by Princess Françoise in Morocco, Spain and France earlier than she died in 1953, leaving him an orphan aged 14.
Michael returned to Greece for navy service, later offered his mom’s property in France.
He grew to become a historian, wrote bestsellers about Greece and European royalty. He was additionally a contributor to the American journal Architectural Digest.
