Gone are the days when AstraZeneca was best suited for mass vaccination

Dr. Branzalov reminded that at the beginning of the pandemic there was a meeting of the Ministry of Health with all general practitioners, at which it was decided that AstraZeneca would be the most suitable for mass vaccination in our country. According to him, however, “this time was a long time ago.”

“This was the time when we were looking for freezers to store the Pfizer vaccine. Given the short timeframe in which these vaccines had to be ordered, we said that AstraZeneca would be best for us,” he explained. .

According to Dr. Branzalov, mass vaccination is hampered by a shortage of vaccines – including AstraZeneca, but there is already an outflow of people willing to be vaccinated after stopping the Oxford vaccine.

“Nothing worse can happen to a vaccine than stopping it – even for two days. And stopping it for two hours, it naturally raises doubts on the part of patients, because they will still have to be subjected to this vaccination “, commented Dr. Branzalov.

The doctor criticized the vaccination schemes and the “green corridors”, saying that the most needy part of the population – the elderly and people with concomitant diseases – should be vaccinated as a matter of priority.

“We are ready to do it. Yes, after this very unpleasant situation with AstraZeneca, it is a fact that we have a problem – we have a retreat. I hope that in the future more people will appear. We must defend ourselves in some way,” he said. -the chairman of the BMA.

According to him, Bulgaria is sufficiently prepared to provide medical care – there are 50 thousand, of which 7-8 thousand are filled. Most of the staff has already been vaccinated or has contracted the virus, but according to Dr. Branzalov at the same time there is a big problem – increasing morbidity.

He is adamant that this moment must be decided by all of us – by observing distance and measures.
