Gommers: ‘It looks like the GGD is doing it again for the first time’

The distribution of the booster shots should be much faster, thinks IC doctor Diederik Gommers. ‘I’m a little angry actually. I think the GGD should show a little more flexibility and really accelerate,” said the OMT member this week in the BNR podcast Ask Gommers.

‘The GGD really needs to push through. I have no idea what they are doing, I’m not involved in that either’, says Gommers. ‘But we really have to ensure that those over 60s are boosted as soon as possible, as far as I’m concerned before Christmas, but in any case before 1 January. Because that omikron variant is just coming, it’s just in a hurry. The GGD talks about writing letters and making appointments. It seems as if the GGD is doing it again for the first time.’

Ifs and buts

‘Take care of it together’, Gommers continues. ‘It’s not all that difficult, is it? You just want that over 60, and then the under 60, to be boosted as soon as possible. We don’t know much about the omikron variant yet, but it’s heading our way. Let’s make sure we’re well prepared for that. We can do that together.’

Gommers also believes that other resources should be used than is currently the case. ‘Let the army help, there are hospitals offering their help. If you sign up as a volunteer now, you can only come if you come for four days. Why four days? A day is good too, right? All ifs and buts. There are also people who say: I have a part-time job, or I want to come and help on the weekend. That should also be possible, right? We have an assignment together and then everyone has to deliver.’
