Diederik Gommers, chairman of the Dutch Association for Intensive Care (NVIC), and singer Famke Louise spoke together on Wednesday afternoon about how they can better reach young people to fight the corona virus. Gommers says this in conversation with NU.nl. He experienced the meeting as “very nice”.
Gommers had invited Famke Louise for an interview when the two spoke on the TV show Jinek. Famke Louise was there because of her participation in the action on social media #ikdoenietmeermee.
A day later she returned to that action and said she would talk to experts.
Gommers explained that he and Famke Louise “discussed what could be a good method to reach young people”.
“I was happy that she was positive about it and together we were able to continue to think in a constructive way,” said the Erasmus MC doctor. “I am a doctor and I think I can explain some of the medical content. I did that and then you notice: she understands better.”
Gommers expresses the hope that the conversation will continue. “I asked her to think about how we can reach the youth together.” It is not yet clear exactly how this will be designed, but Gommers says he certainly wants to contribute to this.

‘We were acting a bit crazy’
At the end of the meeting, a photo and a video (with a filter that distorts faces) was made of the intensivist and the influencer, which were on the Instagram-page from Famke Louise was placed.
“I have not seen it myself and had a meeting afterwards and during that meeting I already received all kinds of texts about that photo”, laughs Gommers.
“I don’t have Instagram myself and we were acting a bit crazy. When it comes to social media, I haven’t gotten much wiser. I will hear from my children what I did wrong, haha.”
