From this Saturday, Don Santiago Gómez Sierra is officially the new Bishop of Huelva. He replaces Don José Vilaplana in office, making him the sixth Bishop of the Huelva Diocese. The new Pastor was ordained a priest in Córdoba, spent ten years in the Archdiocese of Seville and since this July he is Bishop of Huelva.
In his first statements after the inauguration, he told SER that “he does not know much about this province, except what his predecessor has transmitted to him and the devotion to the Virgen del Rocío. “He also knows Lepe for his participation in the acts of the 25th anniversary of the Canonical Coronation of the Virgen de la Bella and Río Tinto for family reasons“.
Mr. Santiago Gómez Sierra has had no qualms about commenting on the problem of shanty towns in Huelva. Has told that “sees the Church as an instrument of social bond, especially with the poorest and defines settlements as a very bleeding reality of poverty with which we have to connect “.

His mission, he says, is to evangelize. To do this, it has the priests and all the brotherhoods, entities and authorities of Huelva. As Pope Francis says, the Bishop emphasizes, “we must walk together.”
