The Minister of Health, Antonio Gómez Caamaño, today celebrated the results of the start of the vaccination campaign launched by the Xunta on September 23, with almost 25,000 Galicians getting vaccinated against the flu and more than 2,300 girls and boy vaccinated against respiratory syncytial virus. Gómez Caamaño explained that of the nearly 25,000 people who received the flu vaccine, a total of 3,276 are social health workers and 21,353 are residents.

Regarding the vaccine against covid, he pointed out that since the beginning of the campaign, almost 23,000 people have already received the vaccine, of which 2,069 are social health workers and 20,527 are residents.

He also confirmed that the health areas of Vigo, A Coruña and Santiago de Compostela are at the forefront when it comes to vaccinating girls and boys against RSV.

Gómez Caamaño highlighted the commitment of health professionals and the trust of citizens in the Galician Vaccination Program, which he attributed to the work carried out by the General Directorate of Public Health of the Ministry of Health and with the support of the services, in the field of prevention infectious diseases.

“Without all these workers we would not have these magnificent results or the reputation that Galicia enjoys for vaccination, both nationally and internationally,” he said.

Gómez Caamaño recalled that the combined vaccination campaign against influenza and covid started last September, including, as a novelty, the intranasal vaccination for girls and boys between 2 and 5 year old, which will begin to be applied next Monday.

He pointed out that the Xunta has set an important goal in this year’s campaign, which is to achieve vaccination coverage in the health workers of the Galician Health Service higher than 75%.

He also recalled that the Galician Government changed the vaccination strategy against the human papillomavirus because scientific evidence supports the single-dose regimen and increases vaccination rates in men up to 18 years of age. of age.
