Twenty-four-year-old Morikawa imitated the famous compatriot Tiger Woods and won two majors before his 25th birthday. But he was the first to do so in his debuts.

Morikawa only got to the head of The Open during the final round and won by two strokes ahead of another American Jordan Spieth, the winner of the 2017 tournament. Like him, the Spaniard Jon Rahm finished with a score of -11 and thanks to that he will return to the post of world number one.

“This is by far one of the best moments of my life. Look at the fans, it’s amazing to hear them. I want to come here year after year,” said Morikawa, who is moving to third place in the rankings.

While last year in San Francisco he took the trophy without spectators, because the PGA Championship was played without them as the first major due to coronavirus in history, the famous Claret Pitcher took over to the loud applause of fans. Last year, the tournament did not take place due to a pandemic.

Morikawa did not become a professional until 2019. “From day one, I believe in my abilities and perform my tasks from Monday to Wednesday to know what is needed in tournaments,” he said. It can be said that he manages it to number one. He won two majors from eight starts in the Big Four tournaments.

He flew to The Open without his manager and left his coach at home. “I don’t need them every week,” explained a Los Angeles native living in Las Vegas earlier this week.
