Orlando – It was one of those magical Tiger Woods moments again: The US superstar hit his golf ball with an elegant swing on the third hole of the classy Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando from a good 200 meters straight to the flag. An almost perfect shot.

It almost seemed as if the serious Tiger Woods car accident had never happened in Los Angeles less than ten months ago. But this grandiose blow at the comeback of the 45-year-old Californian at the traditional family tournament of the PGA Tour in Florida was only a snapshot. The first round of the PNC Championship, which Woods played alongside his twelve-year-old son Charlie, also revealed how far the 15-time major winner is from playing tour-level competitive golf.

He is far from being able to fully load his right leg, which was broken several times in the accident, and the speed of his golf swing is nowhere near as high as it used to be. “I took two or three good strokes today that went exactly the way I wanted them to,” said Woods after the lap. He also lacks a lot of stamina.

To protect his legs, Woods sat down in the golf cart with his 14-year-old daughter Sam and girlfriend Erica after each stroke and drove after his ball. Son Charlie walked the golf course. Team Woods finished the first day of the tournament with a total of 62 strokes in shared fifth place – three strokes behind the leading duo Stewart and Reagan Cink.

For Woods, Florida isn’t about winning, it’s all about having fun. “We had a great time,” revealed the long-time number one in the world.
