Sagström got off to a rough start with a bogey already on the first hole, but quickly got over that setback.
The solid play with four birdies in the first nine holes gave a lead that for a while was up to two strokes.
But then things slowed down, just one birdie on the last nine and when the 31-year-old bogeyed the 16th hole, Zhang was in contention.
And soon over, thanks to two birdies while Sagström parred the last two holes.
Superior duo
Despite a final round of 69, three under par, the performance was not enough to claim her second LPGA Tour title, four years after her first and so far only one. Zhang shot a 66 when it mattered most.
For the victory, Zhang received the equivalent of approximately five million kroner. Sagström did not win the lottery with a prize check of around three million kroner.
The duo was superior to the others. Third Gabriela Ruffels, Australia, was 13 strokes behind Sagström.
– She (Zhang) played fantastically. I was a little upset. I had an okay shot, but today it wasn’t meant to be, says Sagström in Viaplay’s broadcast and continues:
– I was nervous today. But you learn from being here. It sucks now and it hurts a little, but my time will come. But I’ve played great golf.
Grant tied for seventh
Linn Grant performed significantly. Final 67 strokes resulted in a total of 281 and shared seventh place, among others with world number one Nelly Korda.
Anna Nordqvist went on 71 strokes and came tied for twelfth on 282 strokes. Incidentally, she won the competition in 2017 in 263 strokes.
Pernilla Lindberg did not manage to hold the game together as well. 76 strokes meant 292 total and 64th place.
