Golf: Ludvig Åberg in shared lead with the world number one

See Ludvig Åberg’s putting performance in the player above.

After finishing the second day seven shots under par on the classic Pebble Beach course, Ludvig Åberg has taken joint first place.

At the top with a total of eleven under par, he is now jostling with world number one Scottie Scheffler and meritorious Belgian Thomas Detry.

24-year-old Åberg – who won on the PGA tour already in his debut season last year – got off to a flying start with a birdie on the first hole followed by an eagle on the second. Especially the putts sat as they should in the first four holes, several of them he hit from over ten meters.

– What do you say about it? Are you serious? Wow, the commentator exclaimed after one of the putts.

– I don’t remember the last time I did it, so it’s clear that it’s a small bonus, said Åberg afterwards.

“Continued to be disciplined”

After four more birdies, Åberg finished the round on 65 strokes. He has thus climbed seven places to the top.

– I felt like I continued to play pretty well and continued to be disciplined, so that was nice.

The competition in California is played on the first two days on two different courses – classic Pebble Beach and Spyglass Hill – and is one of eight so-called “signature competitions” on the US tour.

Only 80 top players are allowed to participate and the total prize pool is approximately 207 million kroner (20 million dollars). All players also get to share in the prize money – there is no qualification limit in the competition. This means that all players are guaranteed to play the two final rounds this weekend and then only the Pebble Beach course applies.
