La Jolla (dpa) – After another strong performance, Germany’s golf star Martin Kaymer has a chance of a real top result at the 121st US Open.
The 36-year-old from Mettmann played a round of 69 on the demanding Torrey Pines Golf Course in La Jolla and thus remained two under par. In the overall standings, Kaymer climbed 20 places to a shared 21st place before the final round on Sunday.
The two-time major winner, who won the 2014 US Open, is six strokes behind. The American Russel Henley now shares the lead in the event, which is endowed with US $ 12.5 million, with Mackanzie Hughes from Canada and Louis Oosthuizen from South Africa, each with 208 strokes after three rounds. The Englishman Richard Bland, still leading after two days, slipped after a round of 77 and shares 21st place with Kaymer.
