The Europa Tour, on whose tournament series Austria’s golf aces Bernd Wiesberger and Matthias Schwab are earning their money, is obviously severely affected by the economic consequences of the corona crisis.
The newspaper “The Telegraph” quotes from internal mails from tour boss Keith Pelley to the members, about which golf-live.at reported, and in which a bleak picture is drawn.
Pelley announces that changes can be expected after the restart, which has not yet been scheduled (September is under discussion). Measures such as greatly reduced prize money, simplified tournament infrastructure and the holding of several tournaments in one week are therefore not excluded.
“The reality is that the pandemic will have a profound financial impact on the tour, as well as on many of our partners, in both sponsorship and TV broadcasting,” writes Pelley. The effects of the crisis would still be felt in 2021.
