Goldman CEO says US economic soft landing more likely

riceGoldman Sachs Group Inc. Chief Executive David Solomon said the odds of a soft landing for the U.S. economy were “significantly higher” than they were six months ago.

“The odds of a soft landing for the U.S. economy in 2023-24 are more likely than I thought six months ago,” Solomon said at a conference hosted by RBC Capital Markets on Thursday.

But he also said the U.S. economy still faces challenges, including the war in Ukraine and China’s relationship with the West.

“We will have to prepare for the fact that things could be more difficult than they are now,” Solomon said. But he added: “That doesn’t mean we’re going to be forced into a severe downturn in the economy. The Fed seems to be doing a good job so far, but there’s a lot going on in the world. It’s uncertain times.” ‘ said.
