Three days after being beaten in Phoenix, Golden State took revenge and won against the Suns, ending their 18-game winning streak. On the Staples Center side, the Clippers dominated the Lakers in the Los Angeles derby.
Game of the Night: Golden State – Phoenix
It’s not so common for the top two NBA teams to face off three days apart, and yet that was the case this Friday, with Golden State hosting Phoenix, three days after losing at 104-96. among the Suns. The Warriors got a resounding revenge in their arena, winning 118-96 to end Arizona’s 18-game winning streak. There was not really any suspense in this meeting. Golden State led from the second to the last minute. Phoenix held for a little more than a half (51-48, mt), before collapsing in the last quarter of an hour, the gap climbing to +27. After his bad game on Tuesday, Stephen Curry made up for it by scoring 23 points (6/11 to 3pts), and was well helped by Andrew Wiggins and Gary Payton II, authors of 19 points each. As in the 2014-15 season, the Warriors have won their last eleven home games by more than thirteen points, an NBA record. As for the Suns, deprived of Devin Booker, Deandre Ayton finished with 23 points and Chris Paul 12. We will find the two teams for a new clash on Christmas Day, in Phoenix!
MVP of the night: Luke Kennard
A Los Angeles derby was taking place this Friday at Staples Center, and it was the Clippers who beat the Lakers 115-119 and thus surpass them in the standings, to find themselves sixth. Tyronn Lue’s men led from start to finish in this meeting, but never by more than twelve points (gap is at the end of the third quarter). They only had a single point lead at 4’57 from the end (102-103), but they could count on a decisive Luke Kennard, who scored 17 of his 19 points in the last quarter., and in particular a 3-point shot at 1’12 from the end to bring the score to 113-109 and another 38 seconds from the buzzer to bring the score to 116-111. Paul George having been clumsy (0 of 7 to 3 points), it was Marcus Morris who finished leading scorer for the Clippers, with 21 points, while opposite, Anthony Davis finished with 23 points and LeBron James (back from his covid protocol) with 23.
The flop of the night: Dallas
Receiving thirteenth in the standings when you’re fifth shouldn’t be a problem. And yet, Dallas managed to bow heavily in its room against New Orleans: 91-107! The Mavericks, deprived of Kristaps Porzingis and Willie Cauley-Stein, injured, and Frank Ntilikina, left on the bench by the coach, were dominated by the Pelicans, whom they had yet beaten by 32 points on Wednesday. However, they led during the first half, but lost the thread in the second, including a 20-35 in the third quarter. The fault in particular with a Brandon Ingram in great shape, author of 24 points and 12 rebounds. On the Dallas side, Luka Doncic was clumsy (7 of 20 on shots including 0 of 6 at 3 points) but finished with 21 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists (and 7 lost balls). Jalen Brunson finished with 16 points.
Frenchman of the Night: Rudy Gobert
Third straight victory for Utah, still solid third in the Western Conference. The Jazz dominated Boston in a very offensive game (137-130) where Jayson Tatum finished with 37 points, Donovan Mitchell with 34 and Mike Conley with 29.. Rudy Gobert, meanwhile, offered himself a nice double-double, with 18 points and 12 rebounds., while Celtics coach Ime Udoka admitted to having targeted him particularly by wanting to get him out of the racket thanks to players like Al Horford (21pts, 6rbds, 9pds) and Grant Williams (6pts, 3rbds).
