There is also Matteo Garrone with Io Capitano, already Silver Lion – award for best director at the 2023 Venice Film Festival, among the candidates for the Golden Globes which will be awarded in Los Angeles on January 7th, live on CBS from the Beverly Hilton and streaming on Paramount +, competing in the category of best film not in the English language, together with Anatomy of a Fall – fresh winner at the EFA, Leaves in the Wind for Finland, Past Lives, The Snow Society for Spain and Glazer’s The zone of interest. Anatomy of a Fall, The Zone of Interest and Past Live are also in the best film list with Killers of the Flower Moon, Maestro and Oppenheimer. Leading the nominations is Barbie by Greta Gerwig, with 9, followed closely by Oppenheimer by Christopher Nolan and Killers of the Flower Moon by Martin Scorsese.
The next edition, number 81, includes 27 categories between cinema and TV: it is no longer formally the HFPA (Hollywood foreign press association) award, but an event in itself, managed by Dirk Clark Productions which purchased the rights in recent months . However, a host is missing: as CNN reveals, Chris Rock is the latest in a series of comedians to have returned the task of hosting the evening to the sender, after the scandals and controversies that had engulfed the HFPA in recent years. The Golden Globes came under scrutiny in January 2020 after a scoop from the Los Angeles Times that put Hollywood’s foreign press association on the dock as a corrupt and racist caste. NBC pulled out of the ceremony and many Hollywood celebrities announced a boycott. The HFPA, after various attempts at reform, dissolved and the Golden Globes brand was purchased in June 2023 by Dick Clark Productions and Eldridge.
