Golden Globes 2022. A ceremony without gala and stars. All awards, winners, best films

Golden Globes 2022 awarded. During the closed event of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association this year, there was no red carpet, stars and all the splendor to which the organizers have got used to the stars and their viewers. The favorites were awarded, which makes the Oscar race even more fierce.

Golden Globes – awards Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) – awarded this year in an unusual way. HFPA has been facing the biggest image crisis in its history for almost a year. The organization behind the second-most important television and film awards in the United States was boycotted by major film and television companies – including Netflix, Warner Media and Amazon Studios. It is about an avalanche of controversy that began in February last year with the results of the “Los Angeles Times” journalistic investigation. The newspaper’s journalists drew attention to the fact that the HFPA, which brings together media correspondents from outside the United States living in Hollywood, does not have a single black person, and the members of the HFPA allegedly committed unethical practices and suspicious financial decisions.

Although the board of the association quickly announced that the HFPA would be reformed, this did not change the decision of NBC, whose representatives announced that there would be no broadcast of the 2022 Golden Globes award ceremony. All these events meant that the HFPA announced in November last year that the association will select list of nominees without prior, traditional applications for awards – this way HFPA avoided a possible disgrace if no production had been submitted.

Golden Globes 2022 – “West Side Story” and “Psie Claws” with prizes

No stars were invited to the Sunday party (which started at 3 a.m. Polish time, on the night of Sunday to Monday), and no press accreditation was granted. The HFPA results were published on an ongoing basis in social networks. Traditionally, however, the Golden Globes make an interesting forecast in the context of the Academy Awards – the Oscars. The HFPA verdict, both in terms of film and television, was not only predictable but also disappointing at times.

The Golden Globe in the best drama category went to the creators of “Dog Claws”, and Jane Campion was recognized for directing. The third statuette went to Kodi Smita-McPhee for her supporting role in the drama Campion. Kenneth Branagh was awarded for the script for his latest film “Belfast”. The statuettes for the roles in the drama film were shared by Will Smith (“King Richard: The Conquering Family”) and Nicole Kidman (“Lucy and Desi”).

When it comes to the best comedy or musical, the new version of the classic “West Side Story” directed by Steven Spielberg dominated almost all categories. “West Side Story” became the best comedy or musical, Rachel Zegler became the best actress in a comedy or musical, and Ariana DeBose – the best supporting actress in the movie.

A pleasant surprise was the Golden Globe for Andrew Garfield in the Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical category. He was appreciated for the main role in one of the best musicals of recent years: “tick, tick … BOOM!” – Lin-Manuel Miranda’s directorial debut.

The HFPA appreciated the duo of Billie Eilish and Finneas for the song “No Time To Die” for the Bond movie “Nie Czas dyać”. Hans Zimmer for the music to “Dune” by Denis Villeneuve was awarded for the music track to the film. The authors of the Japanese drama “Drive My Car” also received the Golden Globe in the best foreign film category.
