This Thursday, our colleagues from East Republican brought back a letter signed by the president of the University of Franche-Comté, Macha Woronoff, entitled “Threats to Higher Education in Bourgogne Franche-Comté”.
In the text, it is reported that the University of Burgundy is “ready to give up the existence of UBFC (University of Burgundy-Franche-Comté) if the ministry does not accept the principle of a double seat for the COMUE (community of universities and establishments). »
This Friday, the University of Burgundy responded, by press release, stressing that this dispatch “omits” many elements.
The uB thus recalls that “the question of the double seat has always been announced by all the establishments as a condition for the pursuit of a balanced site policy within the framework of a renewed COMUE”, and that in the event of “the absence of an agreement on the merger of the two universities, the double seat is in fact the only possible way for uB to involve its staff as well as possible in the operation of UBFC. »
“No counter-proposals were made by the other members of UBFC”
In addition, the University of Burgundy is trying to reassure the UFC. “The dispatch ignores the most important part of the words of the president of the uB. The latter solemnly reaffirmed his wish to participate, at the level of the BFC site, in the construction of a policy of excellence in higher education and research. “Also expressing that the president of the uB was “the only one to propose an alternative” if the double seat was not ratified by the ministry.
Vincent Thomas thus proposes “the creation of two regional university centers linked by a territorial coordination agreement, as there are elsewhere (New Aquitaine, Occitanie, Champagne-Ardenne, etc.)” or “the creation of an experimental establishment whose headquarters would be located in Dijon. »
The University of Burgundy also underlines “that no counter-proposal was formulated during the council by the other members of UBFC on the future collaborative structure of our higher education and research in BFC”, arguing that it is “urgent to rethink this territorial structure so that it becomes the instrument of a truly collective international ambition. »
