One of the Cuban cities with the greatest cultural heritage is preparing today for the XXIV edition of the Boleros de Oro Festival, dedicated to the memory of the prestigious composer Jorge González Allué.
In defense of one of the genres considered heritage for Antillean culture, on this occasion the event will be divided into a program that is divided into Concert Afternoon, Concert Night and the Theoretical Event, in the Palatino Room, of the Writers’ Union and Artists of Cuba (Uneac).
Precisely in this location and in a meeting with the press it was announced that Boleros de Oro will begin on the 28th of this month and will bring together scholars, singers and exponents of the new generation in a group that includes students and professionals from educational centers. artistic teaching of Camagüey.
The theoretical section will retrace the steps of Allué, author of the well-known “Amorosa guajira”, a theme that has become universal in Ibero-American songwriting.
The conference by researcher Oscar Viñas will revolve around the defender of the genre who “acquires in his work a distinctive Cuban flavor both for the rhythmic diversity used and for the timbral and harmonic color,” according to Verónica Fernández, in charge of the organizing section of the contest.
At the same time, different topics will be discussed in two panels, one dedicated to El Bolero in the music of Camagüey, and another to El Bolero and Cuban culture.
Fernández herself recognized that it is necessary to rescue young people’s desire to compose boleros, ‘”however in our composition contest where interpretation counts, the jury will be strict in respecting the purity of the genre.”
For the vice president of Uneac in Camagüey, Norberto Puentes, musician and director of the Maravilla de Florida Orchestra, “it is necessary to provide the new generation with the tools and elements so that the boero remains alive in its essence.”
Despite the complexity of the electro-energy situation in Cuba, “we have government support so that this event transcends due to the importance it has for culture,” said the director of the sector in the province, Kenny Ortigas.
Emblematic spaces such as the Avellaneda Theater, located in the area of the city declared a World Heritage Site, will host the performances at Boleros de Oro, a festival of the most genuine song in Cuba.
