Goldband takes on festivals with electrifying new tracks and beloved hits

You could imagine that as an artist after 100 shows with only 1 album in your pocket you start to lose the challenge, especially when the audience falls so hard for your tunes again and again. But Goldband still seems to want to go the extra mile. They start five minutes before the start with the lame play that forms the intro for Rommel, in which they pretend that Karel is not there yet, and then of course open with the whole group with their latest single.

Where they added a drummer to the show last summer and a bass player earlier this year, this time the boys of gold challenge themselves by performing that other new track Paniekattack live for the first time halfway through the show. It may not be the kind of festival anthem with which they flatten the field for the rest of the set, but the dedication with which Milo is absorbed in the track is impressive and touching. They don’t all have to be for the field either, that’s how you keep yourself sharp during all those shows.

After that it’s ‘simply’ heading in with the whole zipper of festival hits. Maan is still there for the joint single Siekem, Witte Was gets an acoustic intro and a big sitdown, Psycho an ‘everyone on each other’s shoulders’ interpretation and with that they make their hour more than full and fill the field far to the back. Cynics said that Best Kept Secret is too serious a festival for Goldband, but the residents of The Hague turn out to be the ideal festival act for every kind of audience.

THE MOMENT
At Mijn Stad, traditionally performed with flags on stage, the entire field is jumping and the drought creates a large cloud of dust above the audience. The ultimate image of a successful festival performance.
