Mumbai: The fugitive who was on the run after eluding the police for 15 years has been arrested. Praveen Singh alias Praveen Ashubha Jadeja, the accused in the case registered by the Mumbai Police in 2007, was arrested from Gujarat yesterday. The police identified the accused with the help of a gold tooth embedded in his mouth, who had changed his appearance drastically over the years.
In 2007, Praveen was an employee of a clothing store in Mumbai. It was during this time that he cheated the shopkeeper and stole Rs. 40,000. Praveen was sent by the shop owner to fetch money from another trader. But the man who took the money from the shopkeeper and did not hand it over to the shop owner, presented a false story that the money was stolen. It was also repeated to the police that a person stole the bag containing money when he entered the toilet.
On detailed investigation, it became clear to the police that the statement was false and it was Praveen himself who took the money. He was then arrested and jailed but later bailed and drowned. With this, the accused was declared absconding by the court.
A few days ago, the Mumbai police started a new search for Praveen. The police team interrogated his former associates and found that Praveen was hiding in a village in Gujarat’s Kutch district. Then LIC A police team would approach him posing as agents and would call him to Mumbai and arrest him. Police identified the suspect who had changed his appearance drastically after 15 years due to two gold teeth in his mouth.
