Naguib Naguib, former Secretary General of the Gold Division of the Cairo Chamber of Commerce, told Masrawy that gold prices in the local market will not be affected after the incident that occurred yesterday in the goldsmiths’ market.
Yesterday, Saturday, there were reports that security forces raided one of the gold merchants’ shops in the goldsmiths, on charges of dollarization and smuggling, and the goldsmiths were closed.
However, the General Division for Gold later issued a statement confirming that it was not true that the goldsmiths were closed, and that buying and selling operations were regular, noting that a raw gold dealer had been arrested.
Naguib Club indicated that what happened did not affect the gold pricing process in Egypt, which depends only on the movement of prices on the global stock market, and the price of the dollar against the pound on the black market, in addition to supply and demand sometimes.
He stated that today is a holiday in most gold stores, which are expected to resume their work normally tomorrow with the start of trading on the first day of the week on the global stock exchange tomorrow.
The price of a gram of 21 carat gold today, Sunday, in the market is about 3,260 pounds, according to Naguib Club.
The General Division for Gold at the Federation of Chambers of Commerce confirmed in its statement yesterday that the movement of buying, selling and pricing at goldsmiths was regular, and that retail and wholesale trade was operating normally and receiving consumers throughout the day.
She pointed out that this comes after a raw gold dealer was arrested at the goldsmiths, stressing that there was no closure of the goldsmiths and that work was regular at the goldsmiths.
The General Division for Gold confirmed that what was rumored on some sites about the closure of jewelers and the prevention of shop owners or consumers from accessing their shops is not true.
