Alexis Hanquinquant wins triathlon gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games! Entered in the PTS4 category, the licensee at the Rouen Triathlon club left no chance to his opponents on the night of Friday 27 to Saturday 28 August 2021.
Taking the lead in the swimming event, contested in the bay of Odaiba, Alexis Hanquinquant kept the pressure on Briton Taylor and Spaniard Sanchez Palomero on the four laps of the circuit to be contested on the bike. The triathlete set off for the last 5 kilometers with a lead of 2.58.
Despite falling on the third of four laps on the circuit – a slip on a white strip of the road – Alexis continued to build her lead in the race. In the end, he won in 59’58 with a 3’47 lead over the Japanese Uda and 4’26 over the Spaniard Sanchez Palomero.

The announcer kept saying his name, quite unpronounceable for him: Alexis Hanquinquant! Gold medalist of the Paralympic Games, after his three titles of World champion, three titles of European champion and four titles of champion of France, the Norman adds the only golden charm which was missing from his impressive list of achievements.
What a journey for the one who had decided to have his right leg amputated in 2015, following a construction accident five years earlier. With a mind of steel, Alexis Hanquinquant had put all the chances on his side this year by working very hard near Rouen and in the Yvetot region where he lives. There is no doubt that the Normans will be able to welcome Alexis as a hero on his return from Japan.
