The Trasona reservoir, in the province of Asturias, is hosting the annual canoeing event of the Spanish Dragon Championship of 200 and 500 meters organized by the Spanish Canoeing Federation this weekend.
The Vallkirias Pisuerga team participated this morning with two dragon boats in the 500 m distance in the BCS category, Breast Cancer Survivors, in which they obtained first and second place. The Valladolid team won the gold medal with a time of 2:42 seconds in the 500-meter distance, and the second Vallkirias Pisuerga boat came in 37 thousandths of a second later.
These medals confirm last year’s title and surpass the Spanish Cup held last June in Muiños, province of Ourense.
16 boats participated in the National Championship in the Dragon Boat category.
The 200-metre events will be held this afternoon and Vallkirias Pisuerga is also aiming for the national title, but the finals will not be held until tomorrow.
These medals also represent a motivation and a further push in the demands that the Vallkirias Pisuerga team has been making in relation to the change in the regulations in the BCS category to become part of the paradragon. The Valladolid team, as a representative of 14 national clubs, has always demanded to continue participating and scoring in the BCS category, just as it has been done for years at an international level, since inclusion in the paradragon represents discrimination for both parties.
