“Gojelius”, who nurtures dance traditions, is 35 years old!

The Butrimoniai dance studio “Gojelis” of the Alytus district cultural center is already 35 years old. This anniversary was celebrated with a meaningful event by current and former dancers of several generations of the studio. Groups of guests, leaders of Alytus district, council members came to congratulate them.

“The town of Butrimonius is mostly famous for three things – the only such triangular square in Lithuania, the mother of women’s basketball and the fountain. However, I think that there are few places where you will find a collective that would combine seemingly incompatible things – dance both traditional Lithuanian folk dances, contemporary dances, entertainment dances, and linear dances. Therefore, today I want to congratulate the entire “Gojel” of Butrimoniai from the bottom of my heart and be happy that you are there, that you are able to gather so many people, that you create not only a good mood, but also meaningful leisure time, that you make the name of the Alytus district known in Lithuania and abroad. Live a hundred times longer! Happy holiday everyone!”, the Mayor of Alytus District Municipality Rasa Vitkauskienė congratulated the “Gojelios” team on a beautiful anniversary.

During the festive concert, current and former Gojelios dancers of several generations weaved a braid of dances, performances were given by guest groups: Alytus Youth Center dance studio “Rūta” and Santaika folk dance group “Narpulis”, folk ensemble “Dėdės ir dėdienės” gave melodious songs, vocal group “Crescendo”.

Dance group “Gojelis” represents not only dance, it is an example of the uniqueness, identity and traditions of Alytus district. From the first years of their existence, the Gojelians actively participate in Song Festivals, national and international events and actively nurture dance traditions in their country. The collective deservedly became the laureates of the “Golden Bird” award of the Lithuanian Cultural Center. “Gojelis” is recognized in the Alytus district, known in Lithuania and abroad and very much loved by the people of its region.

The founder and pioneer of Gojelio, Biruta Sereičikaita, the former dancer and manager of Gojelio, Deimante Raižiene, and the current manager, Živila Patinskaite, were thanked for their work, care, dedication, energy, and inexhaustible patience during the celebration. They were given symbolic gifts.

The guests of the celebration were invited to enjoy the anniversary “Gojelio” cake.
