Gojek targets zero emission transportation services by 2030

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesian technology company Gojek is targeting to bring its services, especially in the transportation sector, to carbon neutral or zero emissions.

Gojek Co-Founder and CEO Kevin Aluwi said one of the efforts to achieve this target was through trials (pilot project) first for electric vehicles, motorcycles and cars.

“The commercial trial of electric vehicles is the embodiment of one of our commitments sustainability We aim to achieve our carbon neutral target through the transition to electric vehicles in the Gojek ecosystem by 2030,” Kevin said at a virtual press conference, Wednesday.

He added that this time Gojek was expanding its plan to use electric vehicles through commercial trials. Gojek cooperates with Pertamina for the implementation of the scheme battery swap on electric motors from Gesit and Gogoro.

At this stage, Gojek will use 500 units of electric motorcycles in South Jakarta, then will further increase the scale of the trial with an initial target of utilizing up to 5 thousand units of electric motorcycles and the distance of using electric vehicles as much as one million kilometers.

In this commercial trial, Gojek users will be able to choose electric vehicle services when using GoRide, GoFood, GoSend Instant, GoShop, and GoMart services with an area of pick up and drop off in South Jakarta.

“Understanding the importance of building a strong ecosystem, we will continue to look for technological solutions, supporting infrastructure, and continue to work closely with various stakeholders to ensure the transition to electric vehicles can take place quickly while providing a more environmentally friendly driving experience for customers. and partners driver us,” said Kevin.

“As a form of our seriousness, Gojek will form an independent business unit that focuses on electric vehicles,” he added.

Gojek Chief Transport Officer Raditya Wibowo added that the ongoing trial in the South Jakarta area also aims to explore challenges and experiences that occur in the field.

“We also want validation, if (partners) use an electric motor, what will it look like? experience them, for example from the side of savings when compared to conventional motorbikes, to the convenience of carrying passengers and delivering goods,” said the man who is familiarly called Dito.
