Gojek Driver Mass Strike Starts Today

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Driver gojek who are GoTo partners for GoKilat or GoSend Same Day Delivery (SMD) services will take action mass strike in a way off bid starting today, Tuesday (8/6).

The representative of the GoSend SMD Jabodetabek driver, Yulianto, explained that the mass strike was carried out because GoTo changed the incentives of the couriers/drivers unilaterally.

The incentive is considered detrimental because the value is smaller than before. For Gosend SMD Jabodetabek, for example, the incentive is set at IDR 1,000 for 1-9 deliveries, IDR 2,000 for 10-14 deliveries, and IDR 2,500 if the driver completes the delivery of more than 15 packages.

This scheme is different from the previous one where the incentive amount is IDR 10 if the driver completes 5 deliveries, IDR 30 for 8 deliveries, IDR 45 thousand for 10 deliveries, IDR 60 thousand for 13 deliveries, and IDR 100 thousand for 15 deliveries.

“The action will be carried out simultaneously in Jabodetabek for three days, on the 8th, 9th and 10th of June,” said Yulianto when contacted CNNIndonesia.com Monday (7/6).

He said the change in the GoSend FMD incentive scheme also violated the provisions of the legislation in Indonesia. The reason is, Law No. 20 of 2008 concerning Partnerships does not allow unilateral decisions but through collective bargaining that benefits the partnering parties.

“GoTo’s unilateral decision as the work of the nation’s children is certainly against the partnership rules in this country of Indonesia,” he said.

In addition, the latest incentive scheme also contradicts the Minister of Transportation Regulation number 12 of 2019 which regulates the determination of service fees from two-wheeled drivers or couriers.

The reason is, Article 11 of the regulation explains the calculation of the cost of courier services including; vehicle and cell phone depreciation costs, capital interest, drivers, insurance, motor vehicle taxes, fuel, tires, maintenance and repairs, credit for internet quota, and profit for partners.

“We don’t really have a problem with reducing incentives, but increasing them per kilometer. This is absolutely nothing. They continue to apply new schemes which we think do not make sense without a solution, such as changing the meter. Now the meter is Rp. 2,000 per kilometer,” he explained.

Yulianto said that currently his party is still conducting mass strike socialization to customers who use GoKilat services and merchants who are also GoTo partners.

They asked customers not to use GoKilat services in the next three days. Meanwhile, the merchants at Tokopedia, they asked for the service to be temporarily turned off.

“Because we don’t want merchants to be harmed and complain by buyers because the package using Gosend SMD doesn’t reach the point,” he explained.

In addition to the strike, the Gosend SMD courier also plans to hold a demonstration at the Ministry of Transportation’s office if their demands are not granted.

These demands include the revocation of GoKilat’s new incentive rules that take effect from tomorrow, asking GoTo to comply with the applicable rules regarding partnerships and calculating driver service fees.

Then, urging the government to enforce the applicable rules so that platform companies don’t fight each other in tariffs and promotions that have a detrimental effect on drivers.

Gojek Corporate Communications Audrey Petriny VP said GoSend did not change the income scheme or basic tariff per mileage for driver partners.

Policy adjustments are only made to the incentive scheme. This is done to provide a greater opportunity for more partners to receive incentives.

“This policy is a step to more evenly distribute the number of partners who can receive these incentives, so that more partners have the opportunity to earn additional income during the pandemic recovery period. GoSend also has various appreciation programs for partners with good performance,” he said when contacted. CNNIndonesia.com.

On the other hand, he claims, GoSend also continues to increase the number of customer requests through various marketing programs, technology development and other initiatives, in addition to continuing to maintain and improve better service standards.

Through these efforts, including maintained basic income schemes, adjusting incentive schemes, enhancing marketing programs, as well as other initiatives including appreciation programs for partners, he believes GoSend’s competitiveness will continue to increase and become the community’s choice.

“This will encourage the level of customer demand (orders) for driver partners and provide opportunities to earn income on a more sustainable basis,” he concluded.
