The Europa Universalis series turns 20 this week – an anniversary GOG.com has chosen to mark with pomp and splendor. The online store has beaten by the price of a number of games from developer Paradox Interactive, and also gives away copies of Europa Universalis II.
If you want the game, just skip to GOG front page. At the top of the page you will find a separate banner marked Europa Universalis II, with a large “Get it FREE” button. After logging in with a GOG account, the game is automatically added to your GOG library.
Struggle for world domination
Europa Universalis II was originally launched in 2001, and has thus also managed to draw a little over the years. For those who are used to newer elements in the strategy series, the visuals will probably seem old-fashioned, but the experience itself should seem familiar.
As always, players get to choose a nation to lead up and forward, through war, peace, religion and politics and such. The game stretches from the years 1419 to 1820, and depicts a bunch of historical events – including the Napoleonic Wars and the American Revolution.
If you’d rather try a newer Europa Universalis feature, you can do so on Steam. Europa Universalis IV from 2013 is namely free to play now and out the week. You may not keep it when the free period is over, but also Steam offers a variety of Paradox games at a reduced price in connection with the birthday.
Europa Universalis IV received a new expansion this summer.
