Devotion has had a very unlucky entrance to digital distribution platforms. This psychological first-person horror game was released on Steam in 2019, but was soon removed from there. Now the GOG service has announced the availability of this project on its platform from December 18, 2020. But something went wrong, and the administration of the service canceled its previous decision.
So, in the microblogging service Twitter, the GOG administration published a message that “after receiving a lot of messages from gamers, we decided not to publish the game in our store.” Moreover, this message appeared just a few hours after the publication of the announcement of the placement of Devotion on the platform.
Earlier today, it was announced that the game Devotion is coming to GOG. After receiving many messages from gamers, we have decided not to list the game in our store.

The game was originally removed from Steam due to controversial easter eggs, in which Chinese leader and secretary general Xi Jinping is compared to Winnie the Pooh. After the release of Devotion, angry Chinese users bombarded the Steam administration with complaints. As a result, the game was removed from the Steam catalog in China, even though the corresponding message had already been corrected by the developers via an update. Now the game has been removed from GOG even before it actually appears on the service.
GOG does not elaborate on what the phrase “many messages from users” means, or how much of these messages are from the Chinese audience.
