Goes home to the police to kill

For several years, Mexico has been known for its bloody showdowns and ongoing struggles over the drug market. The state of Jalisco has been no exception.

Now the drug cartel that rules in the country’s most violent area has further pushed the boundaries of its brutal actions.

When Mexico launched its “squeeze, not bullets” campaign, the cartel instead went in the opposite direction. First, several of those who worked in the police elite force against drug crime were kidnapped and tortured. Then they were pressured to tell where their colleagues lived.

Seek out and killed

The attacks have, among other things, been covered by the news agency AP, and is one of the rarities even in the parts of the country where gang crime is at its most violent. The Jalisco cartel has long declared war on the government of the country, although President Andrés Manuel López Obrador denies that it is a reality.

The desire on the part of politicians is to put a damper on the violent development that is taking place in the country. A wish the drug cartel has not shared with its president.

“If there is a war you want, then you should have it. We have already shown that we know where you are. We come after you, all of you. For every member you arrest, we kill two of you. No matter where they are – at home or at work. “

The inscription on the banners that were hung up in May, signed by the cartel, leaves little to the imagination.

Escapes from their homes

The police themselves have so far refrained from commenting on how many of their special group have been killed. However, it has been confirmed that earlier this week there was a case where a police officer was kidnapped, killed and dumped on the highway.

However, security analyst David Saucedo claims that there have been a number of similar cases.

– Many from the police have resigned as a result of the situation. They have taken their families and left their homes, fled the threats, Saucedo told AP.

Local media also report that so far this year there have been at least seven cases of killings of police officers outside work since the cartel started its outreach killings.

In January, several armed gang members are said to have visited one of them at home. Both the employee and her husband were taken away, tortured and dumped. The bodies were full of bullet holes.

– A far greater threat

The hardest hit has been the police in the Guanajuato area. Between 2018 and May this year, 262 police employees were killed. The situation is now so bad that the government is increasing the budget sharply to overcome the problems.

Details of what is being done and the extent to which security is now being raised have so far not been commented on publicly by politicians. In a statement given in connection with the allocations, there is nevertheless little doubt about the seriousness of the situation.

– Organized criminal groups have shown that even at home, the police are not safe. This is a far greater threat than what we have seen before, both to our employees and their families’ lives, it is stated in a statement from the government.
