Kazuki Omori, the famous Japanese director of the ‘Godzilla’ series, died on November 12 at the Hyogo prefectural hospital at the age of 70. The Japan Film Directors Association said Omori died in a hospital in Nishinomiya city, Hyogo prefecture, from acute myeloid leukemia at 11:28 am on Nov. 12.
Kazuki Omori once directed and adapted the film of the same name from the famous work of the famous writer Haruki Murakami “The Song of Listening to the Wind”, and is also famous for directing the “Godzilla” film series. Omori was born in Osaka City and after studying at Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine, made his official debut in 1978 by directing a film with a screenplay by him. After graduating from university in 1980, he used his experience to direct a film about the daily life of medical students in a teaching hospital, which sparked discussions.
Omori won the Best Screenplay Award and the Best Director Award at the Japan Film Academy Awards for “Women in Love” released in 1986; and then she won the Best Director Award again at the Japan Film Academy Awards with a work released in 1996.
Actor Emi Kotaka, who played heroine Miki Saneda in the ‘Godzilla’ film series, staff today posted on Kotaka’s official Twitter to mourn Omori, saying, ‘I want to express my condolences to director Kazuki Omori together with Kotaka.”
A photo of Omori and Xiao Gao was attached to the tweet, which said, “Without director Omori, Miki Saneda would not exist in this world, and there would be no Godzilla series that would become Xiao Gao’s representative works and remain in everyone’s memory. Thank you. you.”
