Godoy Cruz beat Platense 2-1 in Vicente López and sealed their qualification to the quarterfinals of the League Cup. Tomba, led by Daniel Oldrá, is one of the sensations of Argentine football with notable production in Zone B and is the first team to secure its place in the next round of the tournament.
From the locker room, the Cuyo team took the lead since after 3 minutes there was an error in Squid’s start, Tomba recovered it and Hernán López Muñoz scored with his left foot and scored 1-0.
The process was then intense because Platense sought the tie, but lacked depth in Godoy Cruz’s field to be able to hurt. At the same time, the Bodeguero team had space to widen the difference and came close as it was more pointed as a play in which Tomás Badaloni failed to define.
Although a goal disallowed against Marrón due to an advanced position by Mateo Pellegrino was a warning for Godoy Cruz. Reaching half an hour, the game became more open with Platense close to the tie, but his rival also close to being able to widen his lead.
It was in the 28th minute that Platense equalized a corner kick that goalkeeper Franco Petroli rebounded and Pellegrino captured and converted.

At the club’s best moment, at 32 minutes, bad news arrived and it was the expulsion of Ignacio Vázquez for elbowing Thomas Galdames. The Platense defender did not want to leave the playing field since he asked the referee Sebastián Zunino to see the play. The judge did not receive the call from the VAR and Vázquez’s own teammates asked him to leave. As he headed toward the tunnel, Vázquez heard something from Tomba’s substitute goalkeeper, Roberto Ramírez, who also saw the red card.
In the complement the intensity dropped and the friction increased. The game was shorter and with few scoring opportunities in both areas.
The final effort was made by Platense who, with one less player, went for the victory. First with a one-on-one that Facundo Russo lost against Franco Petroli and then with a shot by Agustín Obando that went over the top.
In the last minute, Juan Pablo Cozzani drowned out Juan Bautista Cejas’ scream, although in the next minute Mariano Santiago captured a rebound in the area and with a bitten shot scored the second for Godoy Cruz who qualified for the quarterfinals.
On the next date both will play next Monday at 8:00 p.m. Godoy Cruz will receive Sarmiento de Junín and Platense will do the same with Tigre, in a classic from the northern area of Greater Buenos Aires.
