What does retaining coach Weiss mean for Slovan?
It was crucial to resolve this issue. I believe that Coach Weiss is the best solution. We sat down, we found a common language. He understood the strategy, philosophy and possibilities of the club and finally identified with it, and we are going into the new season with a clean slate.
Weiss quit at first, but a few days later you announced that he was continuing. Did the end of Štefan Tarkovič in the national team disrupt the negotiations?
Events in the national team did not enter into our process, as coach Weiss did not receive an offer from the Slovak Football Association and was not contacted by him either. He had some other offers, probably considering them.
Did your father and club owner Ivan Kmotrík Sr. intervene in the negotiations with Weiss?
He didn’t have to interfere because it was about me and Coach Weiss finding common ground. Of course, it’s no secret that my father and Coach Weiss have had a long-term superlative relationship.
You said he was convinced by the club’s strategy. So how is it different from previous years?
I wouldn’t say she’s any different. We both want the same thing. Vlad and I needed to clarify some things. Honestly, our communication was not in an optimal state and over time it grew cold between us. We needed to discuss it, clear the table.
Would you introduce Juraj Kucka as a new reinforcement if Weiss didn’t stay on the bench?
Hard to say, but I think so. Although his stay certainly helped. It is also easier for a football player when he knows the coach and knows what to expect from him. Well, Juraj would probably come here anyway.
How long have you been breaking Kucka?
It’s a long-term thing. We decide on reinforcements at least 6 months in advance, so that we have an overview of who we can try and where there is no chance. We already talked about Juraj last summer – at that time he wanted to try the Premier League. Now the opportunity presented itself.
