God of War Ragnarok reveals trailer

GwiGwi.com – Sony Interactive Entertainment publisher and Sony Interactive Entertainment developer Santa Monica Studio disclose trailer God of War Ragnarok.

Get the latest details below, via Santa Monica Studios senior community manager, Grace Orlady.

As you can see in the trailer, we pick it up a few years after the events God of War (2018). The freezing winds of Fimbulwinter have come to Midgard, making the survival of Kratos, Atreus, and Mimir in the Norse wilderness more challenging than ever.

While the final game builds enormous trust and understanding between father and son, there’s still a lot of complexity in their interactions — especially after the revelation of Atreus’ Giant legacy and hidden prophecies that only Kratos sees.

Atreus was very curious. Like most young people, he wanted to understand who he was more than anything else. In this case, he wanted to understand who he really was. The mystery of Loki’s role in the upcoming conflict is something Atreus cannot let go of. He wanted to keep his family safe, but Atreus also didn’t want to stand by and do nothing as conflict devoured the Nine Realms.

Kratos, still with knowledge of his past mistakes, wants to save Atreus from the bloody lessons he learned from his conflict with the gods. He wanted to keep his son safe, above all else, and their confrontation with Baldur had proven the belief that only tragedy would come from further entanglement with the Aesir.

Together, Kratos and Atreus must make a choice about which path they will take. Whatever they choose will determine the fate of everyone living in the Nine Realms as Ragnarok approaches.

Suffering and Retribution

We show a brief look at the two main antagonists you will face God of War Ragnarok: Freya and Thor.

Due to Kratos’ actions at the end of the previous game, Freya who was once an ally turned enemy has vowed to avenge the death of her son, Baldur.

We would like to remind players that Freya is not only a very powerful Vanir magic user, but also that she is a formidable warrior. Infuriated by Kratos’ evasion of justice with his hands, Freya would aim every weapon she had at her son’s killer.

Also suffering the loss of his son and half-brother, Thor’s legendary bloodlust and wrath will be aimed at Kratos and Atreus.

Disdainfully referred to by Mimir as “The Greatest Slaughter Bastard in the Nine Realms,” Thor earned his title as one of the most powerful Aesir gods by exterminating nearly all of the Giants on Odin’s orders.

While we don’t want to go into too much detail right now, we think even a peek at Mjölnir wreathed in lightning will give you a hint of just how formidable Thor is an adversary.

You Have My Ax

It wouldn’t be a God of War without a healthy portion of deep and spectacular battles. You can only see a few new attack abilities, a new Runic Summon for Atreus, and of course, the return of the legendary weapon Kratos.

As a team, we’ve been working hard to take lessons from God of War (2018) and improve combat to feel fresh, yet familiar. With God of War Ragnarok, one of our main goals is to encourage player choice in battle. Whether it’s through hard-hitting combos, mastery of the elements, or clever defensive tactics—you’ll find plenty of opportunities to fight alongside our duo in a way that feels unique and expressive.

Whatever your choice of battle strategy, the enemy awaits in God of War Ragnarok will be ready. Nature has grown tougher, and a host of new creatures from across Norse mythology will put your skills to the test. From the trailer you can see what happens when Kratos finds himself under Stalker’s nails or caught between Dreki’s jaws, and that’s just the beginning.

As the number of enemies increases, we aim to make every battle encounter memorable from the smallest fights to big bosses stopping the show! We can’t wait to show you more as we get closer to release.

To Asgard

Fans who played the final game knew that they could visit six of the Nine Realms during their journey. In God of War Ragnarok, you will be able to visit all nine!

God of War Ragnarok will take you to previously unreachable Vanaheim, Svartalfheim, and Asgard—as well as to new areas of locations featured in the last game. Exploring nature will take you everywhere from verdant otherworldly forests to elaborate underground mining networks.

The next installment in the series will give you a more diverse, beautiful, and mysterious variety of locations than in any other God of War game.

See you next year!
