God of War Ragnarök is on the right path

Santa Monica Studios (Playstation Studios) is working on God of War Ragnarök and recently revealed news about some of the game’s features.

It’s one of the most anticipated games of this year, featuring the return of Kratos and his son, Atreus, in an adventure even bigger than the previous one.

The action of God of War Ragnarök takes place a few years after the events of the previous game, in which we are faced with the reality that Fimbulwinter is ending, thus anticipating Ragnarök, that is, the end of the World.

Atreus, now a little older, shows clear signs of an inner conflict related to the revelations that have been made (the Loki prophecy and his role in everything that comes), finding himself in an emotional turmoil as Ragnarök comes to an end. approaches.

Together, Kratos and Atreus will venture deep into the nine realms in search of answers as the forces of Asgard prepare for war. Along the way, they will explore breathtaking mythical landscapes, recruit allies and face fearsome enemies (like Thor or our well-known Freya), in the form of Norse gods and monsters.

One of the most important weapons in God of War is the Leviathan Ax, which marks its return in Ragnarök and is once again revealed as a fundamental part of the gameplay, being able to be launched and improved with new attacks and abilities.

As Kratos and Atreus venture through the 9 realms and encounter the numerous monsters and powerful enemies that come their way, both the Leviathan Axe, the Blades of Chaos and the Guardian Shield will be of utmost importance.

However, not only enemies will Kratos and Atreus encounter on their adventure, and new (more friendly) characters will also cross their paths, such as Angrboda (one of the last giants), Tyr (son of Odin and half-brother of Thor). and Baldur) among others.

Accessibility of God of War Ragnarok

Over the years, video game producers have become increasingly sensitive to how they develop games, with the aim of making them more inclusive and accessible to all players.

As you would expect, God of War Ragnarök, following the philosophy of the previous game, presents several accessibility features that have been improved and innovated.

Not only have we redesigned the interface to provide more flexibility and readability, but we've also reconfigured the remapping of buttons from scratch to increase the ability to customize combat systems and interactions.”, said Mila Pavlin, Lead UX Designer at Santa Monica Studios, adding that, “All the accessibility features of God of War (2018) have been maintained and expanded to include more than 60 options with which it will be easier to adapt the game to the style and needs of each player”.

Among the news is that the accessibility features of God of War (2018) for PC have been added to God of War Ragnarök. "In the PC version of God of War (2018) our goal was to improve and polish some of the most popular features from the initial PlayStation version, which we continue to offer in God of War Ragnarök for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.”, said Mila Pavlin, then enumerating these features: “sprint auto sprint”, “permanent point (sight always on)”, “sight style” e “lock style”.

God of War Ragnarök will also feature improvements to the subtitle system, in order to provide players with even more customization and information, and improvements in the size of text and icons.

The button remapping system has also been redesigned so that players can customize their own settings in God of War Ragnarök. This means that players will be able to switch the actions of individual buttons and, for more complex actions, choose different settings from a predefined list.

In addition, a new high-contrast mode was announced, which will allow players to apply colors to in-game objects, such as targets, enemies, other characters and various types of objects.

The new God of War Ragnarök will also feature a Camera Navigation System, which will give players the ability to orient their field of vision towards the compass objective. When not in combat, for example, and pressing the navigation aid button, your field of vision will be redirected towards the next story objective.

God of War Ragnarök is scheduled to be released for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 later this year (2022).
