God of War Ragnarok is delayed until 2022. It is according to one new interview on PlayStation Blog with PlayStation StudiosCEO Hermen Hulst, who discussed a lot about where the team at Sony Worldwide Studios is right now, what the focus is on and what players can expect for the rest of 2021, on the road to 2022.
As part of these discussions, Hulst confirmed that the next God of War will not be available this year but will be postponed until 2022 to give the team at Sony Santa Monica more time.
“We currently have two very large, action-driven games under development: Horizon Forbidden West and the next God of War. And both of these have been affected by team constraints. We believe Horizon will be released during the Christmas season this year, but it is not really safe yet, and we are working as hard as we can to confirm it for you as soon as we can, says Hulst.
“As for God of War, the project started a little later. So we’ve decided to postpone that game until next year to make sure Santa Monica Studio can deliver the amazing God of War game that we all want to play.”
This was followed by a message shared by Sony Santa Monica on Twitter.
Comes to both PS4 and PS5
In addition to this news of delay, it seems that the next God of War is also coming to PS4. The game has previously been confirmed to arrive PS5.
“In cases where it feels sensible to develop a title for both PS4 and PS5 – as for Horizon Forbidden West, the next God of War, GT7 – we keep looking at it,” Hulst said. “And if PS4 owners want to play that game, they can. If they want to update and play the PS5 version, the game will be there for them too.
Earlier, it was also confirmed that Sony’s other big upcoming blockbuster, Horizon Forbidden West, will be coming to PS4 as well as PS5. Guerrilla Games recently unveiled 14 minutes of gameplay and showed new combat mechanics and new machines i Horizon Forbidden West.
It is unclear when in 2022 we will see the sequel to God of War, but we hope that Sony will share more information about the new God of War in the coming months.
