Photo mode can be accessed at any point in the game, from the quieter parts, when Kratos and Atreus enjoy the scenery, to the heat of the fight. Once activated, users will be able to make various adjustments to the scene, such as rotating the camera up to 90°, adjusting the field of view, focal length and more. Secondary characters that interfere with photo composition can be completely removed. It is also possible to change the expressions of some of the protagonists of the scenes, such as Kratos, Atreus, Freya, Brok, Sindri, Angrboda, Thor and Thrúd.
For gamers who want to take photography even further, you can control the shutter aperture to create effects such as depth of field, focal distance, and control the F-Stop to capture more or less light. Once the photo is taken, there are options to adjust brightness and exposure, add filters such as film grain, and control its intensity by adjusting color vibrancy and saturation. Photo mode will also let you add vignettes, borders, and logos.
Quality Control Manager at sony Santa Monica’s Tim Ward offered some tips for gamers who want to take great pictures. He suggests that the user fiddle with the strength of the filter first, then with the vibrancy and saturation of the color to ensure that they are getting the widest range of colors.
He also recommended tilting the camera slightly to make scenes look more dynamic, and locating the photo’s light source to ensure it provides adequate visibility for what the player wants to show.
