Gočár gallery presents the paintings of Alfons Mucha against the work of contemporary artists – Novinky

“Visitors can see large format paintings with historical themes. It is a painting by Jan Rokycan at the Council of Basel, painted in 1933. The second is the Nymburk LP 1421 Surrender to God and the Praguers and the third is the Allegory of Wealth, linked to a myth- Slavic knowledge, which was created in 1937.

“During the preparation of the exhibition, it was possible to examine archival sources and other period materials, shedding light on this hitherto unexplored area of Mucha’s work. The exhibition catalog of the research results and documents will give a perfect picture of Michal Kudláček,” said curator Lenka Bydžovská.

Collection from Chrudim

In a new context, an excellent collection of Alfons Mucha posters, panels (filling, panel, decorative filling image), calendars and sample books, which came from the collections of the Regional Museum in Chrudim, are presented.

His heart was cleverly bought by the museum board at the end of the 19th century, when Mucha was just gaining worldwide fame. Due to the sensitivity of these original works to light, their exhibition period is limited to two months, until September 29.

Mucha’s work is closely related to the art nouveau style. In Paris at the end of the 19th century, he became famous throughout the world mainly with posters for theater shows with the actress Sarah Bernhardt. The decorative style is unique, often associated with beautiful female and floral motifs.

The theme of his work, even now in the exhibition, will be determined by the work of dozens of contemporary Czech authors who deal with similar themes and questions from their positions and views. For example, Tomáš Císařovský created a picture showing an imaginary meeting between Alphonse Mucha and Paul Gauguin in the port of Marseille.

This is the author’s view of the reunion of two artists who were close in the early 1890s. Other exhibitors are Karíma Al-Mukhtarová, Veronika Holcová, Martin Krajc, Jakub Matuška aka Masker, Pasta Oner, Jiří Petrbok, Petr Písařík and Jan Šerých.

The exhibition, which started last week, was on two floors of the Gočár gallery, which moved last year to the wonderful building of the old Automatic Mill, designed by the architect Gočár.
