GOAT debate ‘makes sport magic’

Her partner Aleksander Aamodt Kilde has already ennobled her with a “GOAT” posting, but in the debate about the greatest of all time in skiing, Mikaela Shiffrin enjoys the different perspectives.

The contentiousness makes the “beauty and magic of sport”, emphasizes the new record woman. “I think one of the most beautiful things about sports is that people can decide who they want to cheer for and what their favorite team is,” says Shiffrin.

At the same time, Shiffrin emphasized, with a view to her now 84 World Cup victories, that the number is undeniable, but that the fans weight and appreciate things differently.

“There are many people who don’t care what I achieve”

“That’s what I love about it, I love that there are a lot of people who don’t care what I achieve. There will always be people who think that Ingemar (Stenmark) is the greatest. Or who definitely think so “that Marcel (Hirscher) is the greatest, or that Lindsey (Vonn) is the greatest. So their legacy will always remain intact and they will always be a part of the history of ski racing. The greatest achievement is being part of this conversation .”

Since her Kronplatz double, 27-year-old Shiffrin has trumped her American compatriot Lindsey Vonn. She is now two wins away from catching Swede Ingemar Stenmark – and three to overtake him.

“His legacy is synonymous with ski racing,” says Shiffrin about the 66-year-old who has triumphed 86 times in the World Cup. He set the standard for what has become of ski racing, says Shiffrin.
