Conclusion: The FC also failed to score for the fourth game in a row. FC couldn’t finish their offensive actions cleanly against a surprisingly courageous team from Bochum. With a penalty and a slapstick goal, VfL has now taken an important step out of the table cellar. Steffen Baumgart’s team must now look back down the table and end the goal drought in the coming weeks as quickly as possible.

final whistle

90.+1.: Schmitz’s next cross also ends up in the hands of VfL keeper Riemann.

87.: It’s bewitched. After preliminary work by Huseinbasic, Tigges finishes in the penalty area, but Masovic blocks it. It just doesn’t want to be today…

82.: Almost ten minutes before the end, the Cologne team throws everything forward again. So far, however, the Baumgart team has hardly had any dangerous chances to score in the second half.

78.: The FC reacts and changes again directly twice. Martel makes way for Olesen and Adamyan comes on for Maina.

77.: That could have been it. Hofmann puts a ball on the right edge of the penalty area in front of the Cologne box. After a little slapstick, the ball lands at Masovic, who makes it 2-0 for Bochum.

Goal for VfL Bochum

74.: Now we’re getting one after the other. After a chance from FC, Asano almost comes to an end, but Chabot is there with a monster tackle.

70.: Bochum also change a second time. Saidy Janko replaces Konstantinos Stafylidis.

67.: Now Baumgart changes for the first time and brings two fresh forces. Steffen Tigges replaces Davie Selke and Dennis Huseinbasic for Dejan Ljubicic.

64.: FC keeps playing in the last third of the Bochum half, but then it just gets too imprecise.

60.: The people of Cologne are on the trigger. Martel plays out to Kainz, who dangerously puts the ball in front of the goal. The ball slips past everyone again.

57.: Next corner from FC. Kainz’s cross flies into the penalty area and through everyone.

52.: After a corner by Kainz, Selke heads in the middle and puts the ball a good meter over the opponent’s box. The FC striker was pinched by two players from Bochum, which is why the goal was not placed.

50.: The FC comes out of the cabin well and continues to play boldly forward.

46.: The Bochum team change for the first time in the game and bring an ex-FC kicker onto the pitch. Dominique Heintz defends for Danilo Soares.

Kick-off in the second half between 1. FC Köln and VfL Bochum

Half-time conclusion: The encounter is intensively led by both teams. After an initially balanced game, Bochum took the lead in the ninth minute thanks to a penalty by Stöger. However, FC then got better and better and created several good chances. Everything is still possible for the Baumgart team.

halftime

45.+1.: Now it’s getting a little hot. After a foul by Hofmann, Selke and Stöger quarrel and exchange a few pleasantries.

43.: Good free kick opportunity for FC. Kainz, however, put the ball well over the VfL box from twenty yards. There would have been more…

40.: The people of Cologne are now the decisive team. Selke comes to the ball again, but Riemann is back on the spot.

37.: Corner for the FC, which again finds no buyers. The standards of the Domstadt left a lot to be desired in the past games.

32.: Huge chance for VfL Bochum. After extra time, Asasno can volley free in front of Schwäbe, but the ball comes too centered on the Cologne box.

30.: Both teams act boldly and keep creating chances. After a cross Selke screws up to the header, which does not find its way into the net. The FC striker has been an invigorating element up front so far.

29.: Hofmann collects the first yellow card in the game. After Ljubicic wants to make the game fast, the man from Bochum pulls his jersey and thus prevents the counterattack.

24.: Short break in treatment. Ordets has to be treated on the head after a duel with Selke. But Bochum can continue playing.

21.: The game is incredibly intense. Both teams play quickly forward and fight many duels.

17.: After a foul on Chabot, Hector takes a free kick in front of the Bochum box, which, however, poses no danger. In the second wave, Chabot comes to an end in the penalty area, which Bochum keeper Rieman thinks is great. Good chance for FC.

13.: The Bochum come to the next chance. Stöger comes to an end on the right corner of the penalty area and puts the ball just next to Schwäbe’s box.

9.: How bitter is that? After a good start, Hübers brings down Antwi-Adjei on the edge of the box. Tobias Welz immediately decides on a penalty, which Stöger can transform.

Goal for VfL Bochum

4.: Kainz and Hector come together on the left side. The left-back crosses into the middle, which is clarified to form a corner. However, this remains harmless.

1.: The FC starts right away. Skhiri is free to finish just before the penalty area, but Riemann is able to parry.

8:27 p.m.: Only a few minutes until kick-off. In the Rhein-Energie-Stadion there will be a trumpet. The fans are hot!

8:22 p.m.: Baumgart in the run-up to the game about FC’s goalless misery: “We’ve already found one or the other reason why it doesn’t work well, but it has nothing to do with will or want, it’s just that we have to work on it every day. That’s why I’m confident that we’ll score goals again.”

8:15 p.m.: Just under 15 minutes until kick-off. With a win, FC could take an important step towards mid-table today. Bochum are currently bottom of the table with 19 points, level on points with Schalke, Hoffenheim and Stuttgart. So we can hope for an exciting game…

8:10 p.m.: Baumgart at the press conference on Thursday about the upcoming opponent: “They hardly gave Bayern a chance for 43 minutes. They had a lot of possession against Schalke. They didn’t lose the games because they were the worse team. Bochum is very aggressive, they already have their weapons. It’s going to be a difficult game and we expect that too.”

20.04: The first division statistics against VfL Bochum speaks clearly for FC. They only lost once in their last 30 home games. On April 18, 2004, VfL won 2-1 in Müngersdorf for the last time.

7:43 p.m.: Compared to the Union game, FC coach Baumgart starts with a personnel change. Davie Selke will replace Steffen Tigges in the starting XI. Selke was supposed to be in the line-up against the Berliners, but had to pass due to chills.

7:38 p.m.: The VfL Bochum team bus is currently stuck in traffic. As a result, the kick-off could be delayed.

7:32 p.m.: The FC line-up is there: Schwäbe – Schmitz, Hübers, Chabot, Hector – Martel, Skhiri – Maina, Ljubicic, Kainz – Selke.
