This Thursday (30), the captain found out that goalkeeper Lorena, from Grêmio and holder of the national team, will have to undergo knee surgery, must be away from the pitch for at least six months, and is out of the Cup of the World Australia and New Zealand, between the 20th of July to the 20th of August.
Elected the best goalkeeper of the 2022 Brasileirão, Lorena established herself in the Brazilian national team and was one of the highlights in winning the Copa América, in Colombia, a competition in which she did not concede a goal.
Right after winning the title, with 1×0 over Colombia, Lorena returned to Grêmio and felt instability in her left knee. Club assessment detected a high grade strain. Conventional treatment with medication and rest had no effect and surgery was necessary.
“Grêmio’s Department of Science, Health and Performance (DCSP) announces that goalkeeper Lorena, winger Sinara and defender Nágela will undergo surgical procedures after diagnoses of knee injuries”, informed the club from Rio Grande do Sul this Thursday, revealing injury to two other athletes in the group.
“The goalkeeper Lorena, after grade 2 strain on her left knee, diagnosed at the beginning of March, underwent new clinical and radiological examinations that indicated the need for an arthroscopy, where, if necessary, she will correct the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). The procedure will be scheduled for next week. The athlete had been undergoing a conservative treatment indicated for the moment, due to inconclusive clinical and radiological exams”.
The recovery time for an arthroscopy is around three to six months, but the goalkeeper must completely reconstruct the ligament, which can even increase the recovery time well and a return would only be in 2024. Striker Ludmila, from Atletico Madrid underwent a similar procedure two weeks ago.
