When KFC Uerdingen plays its third friendly at Rundweg on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m., one person will definitely be missing: Mika Rudnik. The 19-year-old goalkeeper, who trained at 1. FC Kaiserslautern and is now coming from the third division club Viktoria Köln, is in hospital with blood poisoning. But now he’s out of danger. How could that happen? “It’s very simple,” says coach Alexander Voigt. “He had a blister after training and dirt got into it.” But Rudnik isn’t the only one who will be missing against the district league club Blau-Gelb Überuhr. Japan’s Ryo Iwata, who joined from 1. FC Mönchengladbach, suffered an ankle injury and Pascale Talarski is ill.

Coach Alexander Voigt reacted to the publication of the schedule with relief and anticipation. KFC has home advantage against Cronenberger SC on August 6th. “I’m glad we’re starting with a home game,” says the coach. “If the weather is good on Saturday evening, the stadium will be full and the atmosphere will be great. We now have a goal that we are working towards.” And what does he say to the opponent? “At the start of the season, the opponent doesn’t matter. It’s just a matter of being as prepared as possible on the first matchday.”

In the meantime, all transfer modalities have been clarified and it’s official: Kai Bastian Evers plays for KFC. The 32-year-old, who played 35 games for Lippstadt last season (2 goals, 3 assists), has over 100 games each in the Regionalliga West and the Regionalliga Nord and has also played 66 times in the 3rd division grass stood. “I’m really in the mood for KFC and the environment,” says Evers. CEO Damien Raths is delighted and says: “Kai will help us enormously with his experience and as a player. I am pleased that we were able to inspire him to take this step towards us.”
