“Elvis, Elvis”, the Leipzig fans chanted shortly before the end of the semifinals in the women’s DFB Cup between RB Leipzig and SC Freiburg (0:1). He was referring to goalkeeper Elvira Herzog, known as “Elvis”, who had to be carried off the pitch by paramedics after a collision in the 88th minute.

“It doesn’t look that good, she was bleeding profusely and has several open wounds on her head. Let’s hope it’s not that bad,” said coach Saban Uzun after the final whistle.

Captain Kaiser: “Nobody wants to experience it like that”

The game was interrupted for minutes, both teams gathered and consulted for the last minutes of the final phase.

“It was kind of a shock when you see our goalkeeper lying there screaming and really in pain. Nobody wants to experience that,” commented captain Johanna Kaiser. “I think we still had full focus again – and then he goes in. It’s speculation if he would have gone in without the break.”
