The last three nominees for the Puskás Award include a special candidate. Pole Marcin Oleksy, who plays for the disabled team of Warta Poznan, is competing for the Goal of the Year award. That was announced by FIFA on Friday.
Oleksy is a player who is missing a leg. He scored in the Polish handicap competition with a beautiful bicycle kick for Warta Poznan.
In the battle for the Puskás Award, Oleksy will face competition from Frenchman Dimitri Payet and Brazilian Richarlison. Payet scored for Olympique Marseille with a beautiful shot from just outside the sixteen-meter area in the Conference League match against the Greek PAOK.
Richarlison beautifully found the goal for Brazil during the last World Cup in Qatar. The attacker was accurate with a half bicycle kick in the group match against Serbia.
Initially, eleven goals were nominated for the Puskás Award. Supporters all over the world could vote for their favorite goal. Oleksy, Payet and Richarlison’s hits were rated the best.
The winner of the Puskás Award will be announced at a ceremony in Paris on Monday 27 February. Last year, the award went to Tottenham Hotspur striker Erik Lamela’s ‘rabona’ against Arsenal.
